How To Darn To Repair a Hole

Welcome to our first episode of our online mending tutorial series

Firstly, we would like to give a special thanks to Chris, our amazing Workshop Manager, and Ellie, our wonderful darning expert and hand model. Despite all the stresses going on around them, they managed to take the time to record this video on the last day before we all downed needles and closed our Cornwall workshop for a few weeks.
Many of our customers tell us they wish they knew how their repairs had been done, and so we decided to take this downtime to show you! The aim of our tutorial series is to help you make the most of your time at home, and your wardrobe. If you are able to switch off from distractions, and fully engage, it is also a great way to reduce stress and anxiety, and increase feelings of calmness and wellbeing.
So, without further ado, we invite you to join us on our zero waste journey by helping your wardrobe last longer. On today's episode, Chris and Ellie will teach you all about darning, a weaving technique to fill a hole in any garment. We are using a contrasting colour to make a statement repair, but if you colour match your thread, this technique can be invisible in some fabrics.
We will be on hand throughout the tutorial and afterwards to answer any questions. Please post them in the comments below and we'll respond.
Now sit back, learn, relax and enjoy :)

The hole I have is in a quilt that can’t be turned inside out; what do you recommend? Thank you!

I found the tutorial very good. I had always pulled the wool to tight when darning and knotted the ends. Look forward to the next tutorial.

Chris – trying to darn a big hole in a really chunky jumper – should I be using darning mushroom or something bigger? Thx
