How to Take Care of Your Swimwear

It’s summer season! That means it’s the return of the cossies. Whether you are a swimming costume, bikini, budgie smugglers, or trunks person, good quality swimwear is not the cheapest, so it is really important to take good care of it!

In easy care tips, you can increase the longevity of your swimwear and maintain its vibrant colours and perfect fit. In this blog, we outline simple care tips that are useful for every type of person for the beach lovers, pool enthusiasts, or the travellers.

STEP ONE: RINSE

Rinse Immediately. After a day in water, it's crucial to rinse your swimwear as soon as possible.

When you rinse your swimwear, you help remove chlorine, saltwater, sand, and any other things that can damage the fabric. If you have been in saltwater or in a pool with chlorine, this is especially important as these waters can speed up fabric deterioration.

Use cool water and gently hand-wash your swimsuit, making sure that all the chlorine or salt residue is completely removed. Remember to avoid using hot water, as it can cause colours to fade and elastic to lose its stretch.

STEP TWO: HAND WASH

When it comes to cleaning your swimwear, hand washing is the best way to get them clean quickly without degrading the fabric.

Fill a basin or sink with cool water and add a capful of our Sportswear and Synthetics detergent that is specifically formulated for swimwear. This little detergent removes the chlorine and is also scented with the invigorating natural fragrances of Lime, Peppermint, Eucalyptus and Lemongrass. Plus, it comes in a mini size so it can come with you on your holidays abroad!

Gently agitate the swimwear in the soapy water for a few minutes, making sure to pay attention to areas with sunscreen or body oils. Avoid twisting, wringing, or scrubbing vigorously, as these actions can damage the fabric's fibres.

Once washed, rinse thoroughly with cool water to remove all soap residue.

If you do not have our Sportswear detergent, then you can always use our little Travel Wash. The leak free, powder formula is perfect for on-the-go care. Similarly to the sportswear detergent, this is great for handwashing your swimwear and any other holiday clothes.

STEP THREE: DRY YOUR SWIMWEAR

Proper drying techniques are really important to help keep your swimwear in shape. After hand washing, gently squeeze out excess water without wringing or twisting the fabric.

Lay your swimwear flat on a clean towel and roll it up to absorb more water.

Then, carefully reshape the swimwear and let it air dry in a shaded area, away from direct sunlight (this can cause your colours to fade!).

There you have an easy way to take care of your swimwear!. By following these simple tips and tricks, including the use of our Sportswear & Synthetics Detergent or a Eco Travel Wash, you can extend the lifespan of your swimwear and continue looking stylish and confident during your aquatic adventures.
