Let's face it, 2020 has been a bust... but despite a lot of ups and downs and frustrations, things over at Clothes Doctor HQ have been pretty great.
This year we've been out and about (metaphorically anyway) sharing and spreading our wonderful fragrances, plastic free products and helping clothes last longer. From new products, amazing stockists and great partnerships our small brand has been out there sharing our big mission.
Here's where we're at...
Our products were made available for sale in Harrods. We're super proud to see them there, looking lovely.
We agreed some amazing partnerships, with Gant and John Smedley, to help their customers care for their favourite garments.
We reorganised our business as tailors and seamstresses were told to close for lockdown. We shut our London shop and Cornwall workshop, and arranged for all our wonderful team to work safely from home, repairing, altering and then shipping directly back to the customer. So now you just need to pop your items in a jiffy bag, send them off, and they'll be back with you within 7 days or so. Our customers love it and so do our staff, so everyone's a winner.
We launched our online tutorial series to help you make the most of your time in lockdown, and care for your garments. This has been super popular, and has grown and grown. We've even partnered with some wonderful brands like Beija London and Onloan to help you repair their items too!
Using offcuts of fabrics from our workshop we started making free face masks in a range of lovely patterns. This has a double benefit of helping people protect each other, whilst reducing waste. We sold out within a few minutes and had to get cracking to make more! :)
We teamed up with Orsola de Castro, co-founder of Fashion Revolution, to help raise awareness on the importance of extending the lifespan of our everyday garments, to avoid them ending up in landfill, whilst inspiring you to buy less and choose well. She also wrote the book "Loved Clothes Last" and talked about us...isn't that awesome?
We went on holiday. Just kidding! We were in fact really busy improving a couple of formulations to make them even more fabulous, and creating some lovely new products to launch in autumn.
We launched a new member of the Clothes Doctor family: No 10, Tough Love Stain Remover. We love it because it's powered by oxygen, not chlorine, making it milder on the environment whilst being absolutely turbo-charged on tough stains. Use as a pre-soak or if you don't have time just apply before your garment goes into the washing machine.
And then there was No. 3...because good things come in small packages we've made sure you can find our bestselling No. 3 Eco Wash for Cashmere and Wool, in every size. 50ml, 250ml, 500ml, take your pick!
Repairing, altering and caring for your clothes with eco-friendly detergents can go a long way in making your clothes last. Our Founder Lulu O'Connor explained to The Sun just how easy this is with the help of Clothes Doctor.
Lulu was also invited by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation to their new series of online Fashion Shows to explore how fashion can thrive by designing a #circulareconomy for clothes.
We're super excited about our new stockists! This year we created amazing partnerships that are helping spread our eco message: you can now find us in Ocado and NOTHS. We also joined forces with YOOX Net a Porter. In partnership with The Prince's Foundation they've launched The Modern Artisan project, and we're their chosen aftercare advisor for all pieces in the collection!
That's not all! We also launched our Basil and Mandarin Leaf Eco Liquid Detergent (alongside it's fab new friend Basil and Mandarin Leaf Eco Fabric Conditioner, our first ever non-bio Eco Wash for Baby and, because great things also come in small packages, Eco Wash for Cashmere and Wool 50ml.
We partnered with Huffington Post to go behind the scenes with one of our fabulous seamstresses, Martha, working from home from her cottage in Cornwall. Have a look at Martha showing how to mend denim and darn the holes in a pair of socks. If you’d like to have a go at home, then try our Mending Starter Kit, containing all the essential needles, threads and basic apparatus to get you started.
